Nonprofit Executive Accused of Embezzling Thousands for Personal and Campaign Use

A former executive officer of a regional home builders association is facing criminal charges following allegations of financial misconduct that have sparked public concern. The 37-year-old is accused of embezzling roughly $36,000 over a 14-month span while employed by the Home Builders and Remodelers Association of Cape Cod.

Alleged Misuse of Funds

Prosecutors allege that the stolen funds were used to pay for personal expenses, including credit card bills, home appliances like an electric dryer and air conditioner, clothing, and other personal purchases. Authorities say approximately $10,000 was also funneled into the individual’s 2023 re-election campaign—an alleged misuse of nonprofit resources that could lead to additional charges under campaign finance laws.

History of Campaign Finance Violations

This isn’t the first time the accused has come under scrutiny for questionable campaign practices. In a previous race, they were fined for creating a fictitious political action committee (PAC) designed to skirt fundraising regulations. The PAC, allegedly set up under a false name, was used to channel campaign donations in a way that violated state rules.

The combination of past violations and the current embezzlement allegations paints a troubling picture, raising serious concerns about ethical conduct, financial oversight, and the integrity of local elections.
