Dana Perino and Karoline Leavitt have a unique bond — both have served as White House press secretaries, breaking barriers in the process. Perino made history during the George W. Bush administration as the first Republican woman to hold the role. Years later, Leavitt became the youngest person ever appointed to the position.
Today, Perino is a familiar face as a Fox News anchor, and she’s been publicly supportive of Leavitt. In March 2025, the two met up in person after Perino praised her on air. “Great catch up with @karolineleavitt,” she wrote on Instagram. “As my mom complimented, ‘she’s a real pistol!’” The photo she shared had fans doing a double take — Leavitt appeared much taller than expected.
Leavitt stands at 5’4″, which is just a bit taller than the average American woman. But next to taller figures like Lara Trump, she can look more petite. Still, when she’s standing next to Perino, who is only 5 feet tall, that four-inch difference is pretty noticeable.
Perino knows all too well what it’s like to be the shortest one in the room — especially during her time at the White House. In an essay for Lean In, she recalled a moment when her then-boss, Tony Snow, reassured her as she prepared to take over his job. “He put his hands on my shoulders, made me look up into his eyes, and said, ‘You’re better at this than you think you are,’” she wrote. Snow stood at 6’5″, towering over Perino by 17 inches.
Perino often pokes fun at her own height. In a 2017 Facebook post with country star Eric Church, she joked, “The shortest person Eric Church ever met? Me!” And in 2018, she highlighted an even starker contrast when she posed for a photo with Fox News contributor George “Tyrus” Murdoch, who’s 6’7″. In the photo, Perino barely reaches his chest.
That same year, she posted a behind-the-scenes shot from the
Fox set showing her feet dangling from an office chair, even in heels. “When your feet don’t reach the floor. Or the apple box,” she wrote.
Perino even has a segment on Fox titled Short Questions, a cheeky nod to her own stature. Her co-host Greg Gutfeld often makes height-related jokes at her expense. While Perino usually takes it in stride, not all viewers find it funny. In a 2023 episode, for example, Gutfeld referred to her as “the little lady” during a discussion about homelessness — a comment many found tone-deaf given the gravity of the topic.
Still, Perino remains unfazed, using humor and humility to own her image — proving that even the shortest person in the room can command the spotlight.
