Duck Dynasty Patriarch Phil Robertson Dies at 79 Following Alzheimer’s Battle

WEST MONROE, LA — Phil Robertson, the iconic founder of Duck Commander and beloved head of the Duck Dynasty family, has passed away at 79. His family confirmed the news on Sunday, May 25.

Robertson died after a battle with Alzheimer’s disease, which had progressed in recent months. The family first shared the diagnosis last December on their podcast Unashamed with the Robertson Family, describing it at the time as early-stage.

“My dad went to be with the Lord today!” his son Jase Robertson posted on X (formerly Twitter). “We’ll miss him deeply, but we know he’s in good hands. God is good, and we’ll see him again one day.”

His granddaughter, Sadie Robertson Huff, paid tribute to her grandfather on Instagram with a touching series of family photos that documented their journey through the years.

Willie Robertson and his wife, Korie, also honored Phil in a joint post, writing, “We’re celebrating today knowing our father, husband, and grandfather is with the Lord. Thank you to everyone who has sent love and prayers. His life impacted so many.”

The family noted that while a private service is being held, a public celebration of life will be announced soon.

Phil’s health had worsened recently. In an April podcast episode, Jase shared, “We’re keeping him comfortable and doing everything we can. That’s just what you do.”

A Reality TV Legend and Self-Made Entrepreneur

Born and raised in Louisiana, Phil Robertson started Duck Commander in 1972, creating the famous duck call that eventually built a multi-million-dollar hunting business.

That success laid the foundation for Duck Dynasty, which debuted on A&E in 2012 and ran for 11 hit seasons until 2017. The show captured the hearts of millions, following Phil, his wife Miss Kay, and their extended family as they worked together at their thriving business.

The series became a pop culture staple, blending humor, strong family values, faith, and a love of the outdoors. It also led to several spinoffs, including Jep & Jessica: Growing the Dynasty and Duck Family Treasure.

Earlier this year, A&E announced a new revival series titled Duck Dynasty: The Revival, set to premiere this summer.

A Legacy Rooted in Faith and Family

Phil married his wife, Kay, when she was 17, shortly after their first son was born. Despite some controversies over the years, especially surrounding his outspoken religious views, the Robertsons have remained a symbol of tight-knit family bonds and unwavering Christian faith.

Outside of TV, Phil authored several books and was a vocal advocate for Christian values. His passing marks the end of a remarkable chapter in reality TV and American pop culture.

As messages of love and remembrance continue to come in, the Robertson family says they find peace in their faith and the support of their fans.
