A wildlife rescue center recently shared photos of a tiny, mysterious animal discovered in the wild—and the internet instantly lit up with wild guesses.

Was it a kitten? A baby squirrel? Maybe a bunny, ferret, puppy, or even a mink? Some joked it looked like a miniature teddy bear—or maybe even a visitor from outer space!

But the real answer turned out to be even more unexpected.

The little creature was a newborn female, only about three or four days old, and had a few minor injuries. But the most remarkable part of her rescue wasn’t what she was—it was who found her.

She was rescued by a dog.

That’s right—a dog gently carried the delicate baby in its mouth and brought her to someone who could help.

So what exactly was this tiny mystery animal?

To everyone’s surprise, she turned out to be a domestic rabbit—not a wild one.

That explained her unusual appearance. Unlike wild rabbits, which are typically born with fur and open eyes, domestic rabbits are born hairless and blind. The rescue team at Heart of the Forest even shared a comparison photo showing the difference between a newborn wild bunny and the domestic baby they rescued.

What had everyone scratching their heads, though, was how she ended up alone in the wild. Domestic rabbits don’t survive well on their own outdoors, and there were no breeders or pet owners nearby. Her presence in the wild remains a mystery.

What’s certain is that this baby bunny is now safe, warm, and getting the care she needs—thanks to the caring instincts of a heroic dog and the swift response of dedicated rescuers.
