Just moments before the tragic crash of Air India Flight 171 near Ahmedabad, Drs. Komi Vyas and Prateek Joshi snapped a final selfie with their three young children. The photo was meant to capture the start of a new chapter as the family was relocating to London. Instead, it became a heartbreaking farewell.
The Boeing 787 Dreamliner went down shortly after takeoff, crashing into a residential area and killing at least 241 people, including the entire Vyas-Joshi family. The plane reportedly lost control just minutes into the flight, plummeting rapidly before exploding on impact.
One of the few survivors, Vishwash Kumar Ramesh, described the terrifying crash and his narrow escape from the burning wreckage surrounded by chaos and bodies.
While the exact cause is still under investigation, early theories point to potential bird strikes, engine failure, or sudden shifts in wind. Flight data shows the aircraft never reached a safe cruising altitude and had issued a mayday call shortly before the crash. The weather was clear at the time, ruling out poor conditions as a factor.
Authorities are continuing to search for the plane’s black box to determine what led to one of the deadliest aviation disasters in recent years.
