Liam Deane, a British man sentenced to life in prison for killing his newborn daughter, was found dead just a month into his sentence. Authorities say he was allegedly murdered by another inmate, John Westland, who has since appeared in court in connection with the case.
Deane had confessed to violently shaking and punching his two-day-old daughter, Luna, because she wouldn’t stop crying. Luna died three days later from severe brain injuries. Deane was convicted of her murder and sentenced to life in prison.
“He admitted to causing all of Luna’s injuries,” the prosecutor said during the trial, according to The Mirror. “He said he lost control because she wouldn’t calm down.”
“There is simply no explanation for his actions,” added Richard Wright, the attorney who represented Deane during the proceedings in Leeds, England.
