Bringing home a newborn is supposed to be one of life’s happiest moments, but for Miranda, it quickly turned into something more complicated.
Her five-year-old son, Max, had been so excited to meet his baby sister, Zoey. In the weeks leading up to her birth, he practiced holding a doll, helped set up the nursery, and proudly talked about becoming a big brother. When Zoey finally arrived, Max was sweet and curious—he asked to help feed her and gently rocked her in his arms.
But the joy didn’t last. Just a few days after they brought Zoey home, Max’s behavior shifted. He grew unusually quiet and pulled away, especially when the baby was around. Miranda was puzzled, unsure of what had changed.
Then, one night, Max came to her with a whisper that stopped her in her tracks.
“That’s not my sister,” he said.
Confused, Miranda asked what he meant.
Max went on to explain—he believed the nurses at the hospital had switched babies.
