Marianna Bowering, a makeup artist and proud mom from Australia, is turning heads—and changing hearts—by using her talent to fight back against cruel beauty standards and support her daughter, Angelica.
Angelica was born in 2018 with a distinctive heart-shaped port-wine stain birthmark on her face. While Marianna and her husband embraced their daughter’s unique look, not everyone was so kind. Online trolls left harsh comments, calling Angelica “hideous” and accusing her of looking like she had been burned.
But instead of hiding or staying quiet, Marianna responded with creativity and love. She began posting photos on Instagram wearing makeup designs that mirrored Angelica’s birthmark—often in the shape of a heart—showing solidarity with her daughter. Her posts, filled with pride and positivity, quickly drew support from around the world.
In addition to standing up to bullies, Marianna also uses her platform to raise awareness about medical concerns linked to port-wine stains, including glaucoma and Sturge-Weber syndrome. She makes sure Angelica receives regular medical checkups and emphasizes the importance of early intervention.
Through it all, Marianna is redefining what beauty means. “You don’t need to cover up to be beautiful,” she says. “You just need to be loved.”
