Sometimes, a simple change in appearance—like a new haircut or fresh outfit—can make a world of difference. That was certainly true for Rosa Ramirez, a woman from the U.S. who hadn’t cut her hair in 25 years.

Over those two and a half decades, Rosa’s hair grew so long that it trailed behind her—and occasionally, she’d even step on it. Her husband often encouraged her to try a new style, but Rosa was proud of her signature look. Her hair had grown to an astonishing five feet in length, and she wasn’t ready to part with it.

But after 25 years, Rosa finally felt it was time for something new. She visited a salon with a few close friends and made a bold change—cutting her hair all the way up to her shoulders. But this wasn’t just about a makeover. Rosa had a deeper reason for her decision.

She donated about four feet of her hair to Locks of Love, a nonprofit that provides wigs to children who’ve lost their hair due to cancer and other medical conditions.
