Liverpool star Diogo Jota, 28, dies in car crash just 2 weeks after wedding

The soccer world is heartbroken after the sudden loss of Liverpool star Diogo Jota and his younger brother, André Silva, in a car accident near Zamora, Spain. Jota was just 28. His brother, 26, played for Penafiel in Portugal’s second division.

Just two weeks ago, Jota had married his longtime partner, Rute Cardoso. Together, they were raising three young children.

The Portuguese Football Federation expressed deep sorrow, calling Jota “a joyful soul who earned respect on and off the field.” With 49 caps for Portugal, Jota helped lead the national team to UEFA Nations League titles in 2019 and 2025.

Jota’s passion, humility, and love for the game will be deeply missed.
Rest in peace.
