After 22 years in prison for a crime he committed at 16, Momolu Stewart is finally getting a second chance—thanks in part to Kim Kardashian.
While awaiting sentencing in 1998, Stewart appeared in the film Slam, reflecting his real-life struggles. Since then, he’s earned his GED, mentored others, and completed over 1,400 hours of educational programs.
Kim met Stewart during a prison visit in July and was moved by his transformation. She wrote a letter to the judge supporting his release, which helped sway the decision. Judge Robert Salerno granted his appeal under the 2017 Incarceration Reduction Amendment Act.
“Freedom is imminent and success is assured,” Stewart posted on Instagram.
Kim, no stranger to criminal justice work, continues her advocacy through #cut50 and her documentary, The Justice Project. For Stewart, her support meant everything—he’s now walking free and starting over.
