Attacks on federal immigration agents are on the rise—up 830% in 2025, according to Homeland Security—and authorities are cracking down.
In Los Angeles, a U.S. citizen was arrested for allegedly spitting on ICE agents during a deportation. In Portland, 24-year-old Robert Hoopes faces charges after throwing rocks at an ICE building, injuring an officer, and helping to damage property during a protest.
Since mid-June, 23 people in Oregon alone have been charged for similar attacks. In California, two clinic workers were recently arrested for allegedly assaulting agents and obstructing their work.
Federal officials say the message is clear: violence against immigration officers will face serious consequences.
