Karen Rodas and Paul Bybkin’s hearts broke when their newborn son, Nathaniel, died just 36 hours after birth from Polycystic Kidney Disease (PKD).
In 2013, their joy turned to fear when their daughter Maddy was born with the same illness. Her swollen belly and constant fatigue led to endless hospital visits, until doctors said a kidney transplant was her only chance.
Paul was a perfect match — and didn’t hesitate to give her one of his kidneys. The surgery transformed Maddy into a playful, energetic toddler, her belly nearly back to normal.
She may need another transplant someday, but for now, Maddy is living a happy, healthy childhood — a gift from her father’s selfless love.
