Anna Grace and Hope Elizabeth were born on December 29, 2016, joined at the chest and abdomen, with a large blood vessel connecting their hearts. Doctors knew separation was possible, but the risks were high.
For over a year, more than 75 specialists planned the delicate procedure. Finally, after a tense 7-hour surgery, the twins were successfully separated.
When their parents saw them lying in two cribs for the first time, their mother Jill Richards was overwhelmed: “We’ve been thinking and praying for this day for almost two years. It’s indescribable to see our girls apart.”
