One evening, as I folded laundry, my daughter shouted, “Mom! Marsa’s got another puppy!”
I hurried in to find our tabby gently laying a pup beside four others she’d already collected, curling around them like their true mother.
The mystery was solved the next day when a policeman came with our neighbor, Mrs. Miller. Her dog had died, leaving newborn pups behind—now missing.
But when she saw them snuggled against Marsa, her sternness faded.
“Let them stay,” she whispered. “She’s their mother now.”
Marsa purred, proudly hugging her new family.
