A tragic shooting broke out early Sunday morning, June 1, at a house party in Mountain View—a usually quiet neighborhood just outside Hickory, North Carolina. One person was killed, and eleven others were injured in the violence.
Deputies from the Catawba County Sheriff’s Office responded to reports of gunfire on Walnut Acres Drive around 12:45 a.m. The party, a pool gathering with roughly 100 attendees—including some minors—turned chaotic when multiple shots were fired. The gunfire erupted outdoors, impacting both the front and backyards of the home and even spilling into a neighbor’s yard, creating a large and complex crime scene.
Authorities confirmed that multiple firearms were used in the shooting. One victim was pronounced dead at the scene, another remains in critical condition, and several others are still hospitalized. At this time, no arrests have been made, and no suspects have been publicly identified.
The investigation is ongoing, with help from the North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation and local law enforcement. Anyone with information is urged to call the Catawba County Sheriff’s Office at (828) 464-3112.
Our thoughts are with all those affected by this senseless act of violence.
