It’s heartbreaking how cruel people can be to animals. In a shocking case from April 2021, a sweet and gentle dog named Buddy was set on fire by a child, leaving him with severe burns to his face. An extension cord was also found wrapped around his neck. Because the child was under 12, he couldn’t be charged with a crime.
Buddy was taken in by the Tunica Humane Society in Mississippi and received extensive treatment from veterinarians at Mississippi State University. His recovery was long and difficult, but he defied the odds. Despite the trauma, Buddy never lost his spirit. His vision was saved, and after months of surgeries and skin grafts, he could finally open his eyes again—without the need for sedation.
Through it all, Buddy remained strong. As he healed, his playful and loving personality started to shine again. He still needs special care, like daily eye drops and sunscreen, but his future looks bright.
The Tunica Humane Society calls Buddy’s recovery a miracle, and his story continues to inspire people everywhere with his strength and resilience.
