Seventeen-year-old Mary Ann Regacho, a young mother from the Philippines, suddenly lost her sight just hours after squeezing what she believed was a simple pimple on her face.
Mary, who gave birth at 16, initially thought the bump on the bridge of her nose was just a hormonal breakout. But it rapidly grew and spread, eventually affecting her vision. Concerned and scared, she tried using natural remedies at home—but nothing helped. Now, she fears the damage to her eyesight and face might be permanent.
Her husband, Albert Sales, works as a farm laborer, but his income is unstable and barely enough to support their young family. Because of their financial struggles, Mary wasn’t able to seek hospital care until a year later—and even then, they couldn’t afford the necessary treatment.
With few options left, Albert turned to the public for help, asking for donations to cover Mary’s medical bills. “We’re just trying to survive,” he said. “Most days, we don’t even have enough to feed ourselves and our baby.”
