Authorities have released the names of the eight people who tragically died in a boating accident on Lake Tahoe on June 21. The El Dorado County Sheriff’s Office made the announcement on June 24 after days of recovery efforts.
The victims had been aboard a 27-foot Chris-Craft boat when a sudden storm hit, capsizing the vessel near D.L. Bliss State Park. Among those who died was 37-year-old Joshua Antony Pickles, a DoorDash executive from San Francisco.
His parents, 71-year-old Paula Bozinovich and 73-year-old Terry Pickles of Redwood City, also lost their lives. The other victims were Peter Bayes, 72, of Lincoln; Timothy O’Leary, 71, of Auburn; Theresa Giullari, 66, and James Guck, 69, both from Honeoye, New York; and Stephen Lindsay, 63, from Springwater, New York.
Ten people were on the boat when it overturned—only two survived. Their names have not been made public. The final missing person was recovered on June 23, ending the search and recovery phase. Investigators say high winds and rough waters from the fast-moving storm likely caused the boat to flip.
The Sheriff’s Office offered condolences to the victims’ families and thanked multiple agencies, including the U.S. Coast Guard and California State Parks, for their support. As the community mourns, officials are reminding boaters to stay alert, especially as sudden summer storms become more common.
