Judge Frank Caprio Dies At 88, Shared Heartbreaking Message Hours Before Passing

Frank Caprio, lovingly known as “America’s Nicest Judge,” has passed away at 88 after a long battle with pancreatic cancer. His family said he died peacefully, surrounded by love.

Caprio touched millions through Caught in Providence, where his fairness, humor, and compassion turned routine cases into lessons of kindness. He served as a municipal judge in Providence from 1985 until retiring in 2023.

In his final hours, he shared a message of gratitude, saying, “I have lived a life full of blessings.”

He is survived by his wife, Joyce, their five children, seven grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren. His legacy of compassion lives on in his book Compassion in the Court and in the countless lives he inspired.
