In the debut episode of her new podcast, I’ll Sleep When I’m Dead, celebrity chef Rachael Ray revealed that she’s been recovering from a series of health issues, which she partly attributes to her love of housework.
“I take care of everything around the house—I actually love doing it,” she shared. “I really enjoy being in the kitchen. Even though I spend a lot of time on chores, I always make sure I’m writing or doing something to keep my mind active every day.”
Ray said she thrives on physical tasks. “I like doing what people call manual labor—making lists, planning dinners, prepping meals. I even like hauling wood,” she laughed.
She also mentioned that she and her husband, John Cusimano, tend to have friendly competitions. “We’re always trying to outdo each other. Like, how much wood did John carry? Can I carry more? I don’t say it out loud, but I definitely think about it,” she said.
However, Ray, 56, admitted she’s had to ease up recently after suffering “a couple of bad falls” over the past few weeks.
Fans first grew concerned about her health in early September when she posted an Instagram video in which she appeared to slur her words, and one side of her face looked slightly drooped.
“Look at her mouth—she might be recovering from a stroke,” one worried fan commented. Another said, “She sounds drunk to me. And she looks swollen. I hope she gets help if she needs it. Addiction is a terrible disease.”
Ray remained quiet on the matter for a while, despite a flood of comments from concerned and supportive fans. On the podcast, she finally addressed the viral video—without going into too much detail—but gave a reasonable explanation for what viewers saw.
“What happened to Rachael Ray?” one fan asked at the time. “I really hope she’s okay. Nothing bad better happen to her.”
